MotionLab is interested in discovering vehicle-motion abstractions rather than individual car-motions in a particular piece of hardware. Guided by deductive approaches, MotionLab has explored vehicle-motion abstractions on several levels. This is a direction that driverless-car science should take to navigate its vast unexplored higher-level territory. MotionLab has discovered the following motion abstractions besides Atomic Motions to date:

- Path Classes and Symbolic Representations
- Path Complexity or Driving Skills
- Spatial Understanding
- Motion Reproduction
Both Symmetric Geometry and Atomic Motions actively helped in these discoveries. In the first place, Atomic Motions are a form of motion abstraction.
